UKYDE is the newest award in the British Council's Young Creative Entrepreneur programme. The programme began in 2004.
UKYDE highlights the contribution that entrepreneurs in the sector make to the development of the UK’s design industry, through their work and understanding of the market.
The award also provides three finalists with the opportunity to find out more about the design industry in an emerging economy. Three finalists from UKYDE 08 will visit India in January 2009 to take part in a tour of the industry that will introduce them to leading industry figures, allow them to network with their peers and provide them with a far better understanding of both the market and the industry’s infrastructure in India.
There are now nine international awards, for young creative entrepreneurs in the communications, design, fashion, interactive, music, performing arts, publishing, screen and visual arts sectors. The breadth of these awards ensures that all of the creative industries are covered by this programme.
UKYDE is one of nine awards for young creative entrepreneurs that are being developed by the British Council with support from NESTA, the Cultural Leadership Programme, trade associations and professional bodies within the creative sector.
