2007 Award & Winner

Sigal Cohen from Venezuela was announced as the winner of the International Young Design Entrepreneur of the Year 2007 award on Friday, 21 September at an award ceremony at the leading design show, 100% Design, part of the London Design Festival 2007.

The award was presented by Thorsten van Elten.

The award stays in South America, as Sigal succeeds Paula Dib, IYDEY 2006, from Brazil and Lanre Lawal, IYDEY 2005, from Nigeria. Stay tuned to this space for more insights from the award ceremony.

About The Programmme

The International Young Design Entrepreneur of the Year (IYDEY) award was launched in 2005 and champions the achievements of young design entrepreneurs from emerging economies. The programme recognises their role in developing new, local talent and sharing this creativity with the rest of the world.

Each year, between eight and ten emerging economies take part in the programme. In each country a national winner, aged 25-35, is selected by a local jury of experts. Their decision is based on the winner's existing contribution to the development, and potential as a leader, of the design sector in their country. The prize is the chance to visit the UK as part of the programme and represent their country in the IYDEY final.

In September each year, the finalists travel to London to take part in the IYDEY final and the tour that precedes it. The tour provides a tailored introduction to the UK design sector, including meetings with senior industry figures and the chance to visit London and Glasgow and attend 100% Design. At the end of the tour and after a day of presentations from the finalists, the winner is chosen by an elite UK jury.

The winner receives a financial award of £7,500 to be spent on a collaborative project with the British Council, together with the IYDEY award.
