The IYDEY award programme was established in 2005. It is the second award in the British Council's programme of International Young Creative Entrepreneur awards.

So far seventeen countries have selected finalists for the awards programme:

India, Slovenia and Thailand have competed in all three years. The Nigerian Lanre Lawal won in 2005, followed by Paula Dib of Brazil in 2006.
