Estonia shares the same set of values as the Scandinavian countries, our design is (sometimes too) minimal, practical and natural. For us, the use of humour is also a common feature. As our country is rather small, the design projects are mostly limited to the easier manufacturing methods, and the small production of furniture, lamps and bathtubs, hence the results compete for the wittiest idea behind the product.
The 'Solar' lamp by Jaanus Orgussaar is made out of laser-cut plywood, which is higly decorative and natural at the same time. I like the idea of using plywood in lightning as well as the floral motive. The 'Dixi' chair by Igor Volkov inspired me in its simplicity and well-thought assembly. The junction of legs is visible on the surface of the sitting plate, as the decorative motive of a cross. The 'Pebble' chairs by Annike Laigo are stones made out of felt, creating a strange sensation of something hard and cold being perceived as soft and warm.
