How are judges chosen?
There are five IYDEY judges, three of them drawn from the UK design sector, the fourth is the winner of the previous year's IYDEY, the fifth from the British Council.
The three UK design sector judges represent different facets of the UK industry but what they have in common is an understanding of the business of design. Some will have design or architecture practices, some will be involved in the promotion of design, others may be academics. These will all be senior figures in the UK industry, with real commercial and entrepreneurial experience. Through our partnership with the Lighthouse, one will be drawn from the design sector in Scotland.
The fourth judge will be the winner of last year's IYDEY. He/She will bring to the table their experience of the previous year and the entrepreneurial and leadership skills that allowed them to succeed. Please note that the country that they represented will not take part in the awards that year.
The British Council judge will have experience of the design sector, or wider creative economy, in a context beyond the UK. He/She may be drawn from one of the expert teams based in London or from the British Council's global network.
