The judging panel for the awards was composed of Ian Livingstone, Creative Director of Eidos and a leading pioneer in interactive entertainment; Niret Alva, co-founder of Miditech, one of India's leading broadcast producers; Chris Powell, Chair of NESTA, Vice Chair of the Public Diplomacy Board and Director of BMP DDB Agency; Sujata Keshavan, Founder of Ray & Keshavan and one of India Today's top 50 in Indian Business; and Sanmit Ahuja, Director of Global Investment for the Commonwealth Business Council. The panel, which was chaired by Andrew Senior, Head of Creative Industries at the British Council, scored the candidates and then chose a candidate for each prize.
In a ceremony packed with emotions and excitement, Priya Patil was presented the award as overall winner of Creative Future. The award includes the unique and specially commissioned glass bowl, plus £3000. The judges said that Priya "is a talented entrepreneur, who has already proven herself in the tough Manhattan fashion market. Her elegant designs and innovative manufacturing process provide her with a significant competitive edge. She is obviously committed to delivering her business idea and to developing a strong brand that engages with the aspirations of women everywhere." Priya's work combines both strong commitment and sound entrepreneurial skills, with a pioneering, ground-breaking vision key to the future of the creative industries in India.
Aparna Rao won the Pioneering Vision award, with prize money of £1000, as the judges thought she was the candidate with the most original business idea, which will impact both her own sector and the creative future of India. Aparna impressed the judges with the clarity of her vision and her obvious talent as an interactive designer. "Her exceptional focus and drive have ensured that she sees opportunities and effectively analyses risks, not hesitating to take those that are appropriate. She has extensive international networks, building a formidable reputation for innovation and setting new standards of excellence."
The Outstanding Entrepreneurship award, which celebrates entrepreneurial charisma, skills and capabilities, as well as ability to develop business proposals, went to Sheetal Sudhir, together with prize money of £1000. The judges felt that Sheetal demonstrated a sound grasp of her sector and the potential for her new business start-up in broadcast design. They were particularly impressed by her energy, focus and confidence. "It is coupled with natural warmth and an obvious ability to influence others. She has a strong commitment to building talent within the industry", which the judges indeed highly commend.
The judges were also looking for the candidate who can best express how - in the past 10 months - they had developed and pursued their goal to build a successful creative business. Nila Madhab Panda was the winner of this award, which also carries a prize of £1000. Madhab was commended by the judges for his passion, conviction and exceptional vision. "It is apparent that he has already built a strong business in film and television, which is already beginning to realise his dreams, create new dialogues and build new audiences in India - his commitment to self development is exceptional."
A special award was presented to Nitin Das, for successfully blending being both a creative and social entrepreneur. Nitin's commitment to developing a new business model that leveraged opportunities for ordinary citizens to participate in the creative sector was particularly impressive. "His strong social agenda and ability to network both widely and diversely, position him as an important voice and advocate for India's emerging creative economy.", as the judges said
