Creative Future

Lots of people are talking about the Creative Future programme in India. In March 2006 over 3,300 people downloaded the application form for the competition resulting in over 1,100 applications. Today you can follow the story of the Creative Future programme through the BBC World Service Outlook programme, where it forms a major part of their India Rising coverage. But why?

Creative Future is a new British Council programme. It takes our existing experience of working with young creative entrepreneurs from emerging economies and adds the new elements of a search for hot, new creative business ideas and the chance to spend time at our unique summer school at the Indian Institute of Management in Bangalore.

It's perhaps not surprising that a competition like this has caught the imagination of entrepreneurs from India' s emerging creative economy. India is alive with creative talent, people with ideas that challenge the aesthetic or entertain. Creative entrepreneurs are the people who recognise where that talent fits in the market place; they provide the bridge to creative consumers. It's also clear that people around the world have a real interest in what is happening in India, one of the first real economic success stories of the 21 st century.

In these pages you can find out more about the finalists, their ideas and share their experience of participating in the Creative Future programme. You can find out more about the Creative Future School, the teachers, the judges and see some of the case studies. You can follow three of the twenty finalists on their journey to the UK, where they pitch their business idea to potential investors. And you can follow the programme to its exciting climax in Mumbai – when three awards will be handed out, and one will receive the accolade of India's Creative Future 2007.
