UK Young Publishing Entrepreneur Award 08

UK Young Publishing Entrepreneur (UKPME) 2008 is being awarded for the second time this year, by the British Council.

UKYPE highlights the contribution that entrepreneurs in the sector make to the development of the UK’s publishing industry, both through their championing of talented writers, biographers and academics and their understanding of the market. UKYPE recognises that only a strong, vibrant and diverse UK industry can develop the local talent that the UK market demands.

The award also provides four finalists with the opportunity to find out more about the publishing industry in an emerging economy. The next big trend in publishing could come from anywhere in the world: quite simply, talent has a habit of appearing from the most unlikely places. Four finalists from UKYPE08 will visit Argentina in June 2008 to take part in a tour of the industry that will introduce them to leading industry figures, allow them to network with their peers and provide them with a far better understanding of both the market and the industry’s infrastructure in Argentina.

Through this website and different interactions around the UK, this international experience will be fed back into the UK publishing industry. It will allow a wider group of publishing entrepreneurs to find out more about exciting new opportunities that exist through trade, partnership and collaboration with publishing entrepreneurs from emerging economies.

UKYPE and its twin international award - International Young Publishing Entrepreneur (IYPE) - seek to stimulate the development of global networks of young publishing entrepreneurs. Through these networks the future leaders of the international publishing industry will emerge: individuals who through their understanding, acumen and ability will industry of the future.
